Some 30,000 t/y of salt is produced by solar evaporation in coastal pans near Benghazi and Tripoli and approximately 13,000 t/y of sulphur is recovered from petroleum and natural gas refining.

The Waddi Shatti iron ore deposit located some 900km from the coast appears to have potential as a possible feed to the Misurata steel complex which currently imports its ore. Here a resource of 795Mt of iron ore grading at an average 52% iron has been identified. Although the government is keen to develop the deposit, foreign investment is required to develop the infrastructure to the mine through the development of a 900km long railway line.

Tarkwian system rocks consist of a thick series of argillaceous sediments resting unconformably on the Biriman. Gold is found in these sediments, occurring as blanket reefs or conglomerate beds, similar to those of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. Alluvial diamonds, about 80% of industrial grade, are produced on a large scale. Primary kimberlites have yet to be found.

Ashanti Goldfields has signed an agreement with a consortium led by KMR Power Corporation, a US based power project developer, and the Ghanaian Ministry of Mines and Energy, for support of a 220MW gas fired, combined cycle power plant. Up to 100MW of this plant’s energy will be allocated to Ashanti. Construction is underway, and full commissioning was expected to be completed before the end of 1999. In addition to this plant, a 144MW barge mounted, gas fired plant is also being constructed at Tano in the west of Ghana. Commissioning was also expected by the end of 1999.

Natural coal is fed evenly into jaw crusher through belt conveyor, and after being crushed, it enters into impact crusher or cone crusher for fine crushing. Final it is screened out by screening machine.

Coal crushing and grinding process
So in order to get the needed particles, Coal crushing plant consists of many types of crushers and grinding mills. Coal crushers include primary jaw crusher, secondary Impact crusher and cone crusher etc. Coal mill includes ball mill, Vertical mill etc.

If the coal block is bigger than the mill’s max input size, it must be crushed before grinding. The crushing plant common includes vibrating feeder as feeding material to jaw crusher, which is as primary jaw crusher. If need secondary crusher, Cone crusher or Impact crusher can be used. After primary crushing, the coal can be fed to Ball mill to fine grinding. To increase Ball mill effectively, the vertical coal mill or coarse powder mill can be set before Ball mill as pre-grinding.

China firm plans bauxite processing plant in Kratie

China’s Zenith planned to build a bauxite processing plant in Kratie province as part of the company’s US$1.5 billion venture in the Kingdom’s northeast, provincial officials said yesterday.

The plant would serve Zenith’s mine in neighbouring Mondulkiri, an exploration licence for which was granted by the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, according to a list of mining companies operating in the province obtained by the Post.

Kong Pisith, director of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy’s Mondulkiri office, confirmed yesterday that Cambodia International Investment Development Erdos Hongjun Aluminum Company had set up an office in the province last year and was exploring a 360-square-kilometre bauxite concession.

He also confirmed Erdos would build the bauxite processing plant in Kratie.

Erdos has been tied to forced evictions at Phnom Penh’s Beoung Kak lake, a venture worth nearly $100 million.

There had been little dialogue between the company and the provincial ministry, Kong Pisith said.

“I don’t know any more about the company because they have never contacted my department,” he said, adding that no disputes had arisen between the company and villagers living on the concession.

The bauxite operation would be the company’s biggest investment in Cambodia. Erdos and its local partner will invest more than $1.5 billion in the bauxite operation, according to an investment filing at the Ordos City Development and Reform Commission in China.
